False Imprisonment is an intentional and unlawful detainment,
confinement or restraint of a person which deprives someone of
their freedom of movement and is against their will. Sometimes
it is by physical force or actions and sometimes by an express
or implied threat of potential force.
The confinement need not be by police and need not be in jail
or prison, but can be done by anyone and anywhere where the
person's freedom of movement is restrained.
There is also a false arrest cause of action and one need
not have a false arrest for a false imprisonment.
